• Weekend or Multi-day trips with departure from Bangkok, Kanchanaburi, Cha Am or Hua Hin to the best performing Mahseer Rivers in western Thailand.

We have spent many years exploring the best Mahseer fly fishing rivers along the Thai –Burma border in Western Thailand, and can now offer 2 to 7 day long professional guided trips between mid October and the end of May to the best performing Mahseer Rivers in Central Thailand. To get to these rivers you will travel in an air-conditioned Toyota 4 wheel drive vehicle through pristine tropical rain forests with stunning views and through beautiful rural areas not often seen by the normal tourist visiting Thailand. The rivers are accessed by 2-3 hour drive from downtown Bangkok. All fly-fishing equipment (including flies and leaders), camping gear, meals, and drinking water are included, an experienced English speaking fly fishing guide will guide you. The rivers hold some of the biggest Mahseer we have seen in Thailand. You will spot a lot of big fish here and while; hooking them can be easy, landing them is another thing. After hooking them, you have to be prepared to run after the big fish downstream up to hundreds of meters. We recommend that you wear green or dark colored clothes so that you do not spook the shy fish. The fishing is mandatory catch and release, and your guide will help you to take photos of your catch before it is released. You also need to be able to walk to get to where the fish are. We have locations where you are rarely ever 1km from the car, but often we have to walk for a couple of kilometers to reach the best pools. Therefore it is best that you get in condition. Fitness can play an important role in enjoying your all round Mahseer jungle experience; it can ensure you are steady / focused enough to make that first cast count after a strenuous march across boulders. Put a few miles on those boots before you come out to get in shape. At night we either stay in a Bungalow close to the river or camp riverside where you will sleep in our very comfortable, 100% waterproof, and bug proof Lawson Hammocks (http://www.lawsonhammock.com ). What to bring : Polaroid sunglasses, sun crème, fishing hat, light weight rain jacket (Gore-tex type material is recommended). Lightweight backpack to put your gear in during the fishing. Socks for the wader boots, wading boots (felt sole is the best here, we got Simms gravel guards you can use if you don’t have any) fishing shirts and shorts (It's best to use green or camouflage colored clothing so you don't spook the shy fish when approaching them), towel, camera and a big smile.

• Multi-day trips to the Cheow Lan area Rivers with departure from Surathani, Khao Lak, Phuket or Krabi

Fly fishing for Thai Mahseer (Tor Tambroides) and Stracheyi Mahseer (Neolissochilus Stracheyi) in some of the most remarkable settings on earth. Jutting thousands of feet straight up from the aquamarine bays below, ancient limestone cliffs cast long shadows across the second oldest jungle on the planet bringing visions of Jurassic Park to mind. As you venture across open water by longboat, you will eventually settle into your individual floating bungalow where you will enjoy a refreshing drink before travelling to river systems that offer spectacular angling for Mahseer that grow to 20 kilograms. The peak fly fishing season for Thai Mahseer and Stracheyi Mahseer is between mid October and May, but we can fish this area year-round as there are many smaller streams with clear water that fish well even during heavy rains. Our guided fly fishing trips to the pristine jungle rivers in Khao Sok National Park which are- legendary Thai fishing locations for big Thai Mahseer and Hampala Barb, regularly produce top nymph and dry fly action for Thai and Stracheyi Mahseer. The rivers we fish are located in the heart of Khao Sok National Park, 180 km north-east of Phuket in southern Thailand and Approximate 40 minutes from Surathani Airport which is served by many daily flights from Bangkok. Mountains of over 1300 meters and dense rainforest with amazing wildlife, bird life, flora, waterfalls, wild elephants, otters, monkeys, deer, Tapir, wild boar and gaur surround them. Our guided fly fishing trips to the Chew Lan area Rivers are multi-day trips. Due to the remote location of the rivers, a minimum 3-4 day trip is recommended for the best fishing result. All fly fishing equipment is included in our packages, but if you prefer to use your own equipment you are welcome to do so. We use class 5-7 rods and reels with floating lines and fluorocarbon leaders. In our packages we also include: transfer from Surathani town or Airport (closest airport to Cheow Lan, a 40 minutes car drive -we can also pick you up from Khao Lak, Phuket and Krabi Airports or hotels for an extra fee), all meals during the trip, mineral drinking water, fruit of the season, accommodation at a national park ranger camp that consists of basic floating raft houses made from locally obtained sustainable materials that blend in with the environment. There is no TV or air-conditioning, and this fishing experience is targeted at adventurous anglers who are looking for the REAL jungle experience and are prepared to do without luxury comforts for a few days! We are very happy to be able to offer our clients a new luxurious floating resort for this season for the Cheow Lan trips. The brand new resort sets a new standard for Thai floating resorts with nicely decorated air-conditioned superior bungalows and gourmet Thai and western cuisine. You can now stay in style during the trip. We still use the old ranger station as the base for the Cheow Lan trips, but for those of you who want a high class accommodation during the trip this is a new option (There is an extra fee for staying at this resort). There are no mosquitoes and no Malaria in the Cheow Lan area. We fish here all-year round, the rainy season (mid May to mid October) is the spawning time for the Mahseer and for the Barb, and some of the biggest fish in the area moves upstream to spawn. Therefore this is a prime time to catch fish over 5kg. The Thai Mahseer in Cheow Lan Reservoir grow up to 20 kg. During the dry season a very healthy stock of fish which can grow to 6 kg inhabits the pools we fish in and offer great action.

We do two kinds of trips on the Cheow Lan area. The first are: day trips with accommodation at the floating ranger station close to the river mouths. We use a long boat to take us to the rivers each morning and we walk up in the rivers and fish our way up. Lunch is riverside and we return in the late afternoon to the waiting boat that will take us back to the ranger station where we sleep and eat dinner and breakfast. The second kind of trip we do is riverside camping trip to the headwaters of the rivers and streams in the area. You will sleep in one of our comfortable water and bug proof Lawsson Hammocks (http://www.lawsonhammock.com/) during the trip. We do this trip together with the national park rangers as helpers too ensure 100% safety during the trip. This is a 3 - 5 day long trip and gives you more quality fishing time in the best pools far up in the rivers for big Mahseer.

The riverside camping trip is 1000 THB extra per day/person. To get extra fishing time during the first day of the trip, we can stay at a lakeside bungalow the night before the trip and depart early morning from the pier. This option is 700 THB extra per twin bungalow.

• What You Need

Thailand's tropical (and high altitude mountain locations) conditions require fishermen to be properly equipped with the necessary accessories and clothing.

• Recommended Clothing & Accessories:
• Fishing hat - A broad-brimmed hat, and it must be a dull color – this is important as a fish see you head first as you are approaching the river! A wide brim is best to protect you from sunburn, reduce glare by keeping direct sunlight off your Polaroid glasses, also prevents hooks in your ears, head or neck!

• Polaroid Sunglasses - Bring a top-grade pair! Best colors are yellow or amber; these improve contrast on dull days. Dark green ones make it difficult on rainy days to see the fish.

• SHIRTS - A light-weight fishing shirt, fast-drying micro-fiber or light cotton, is best. Dull colors are important! Long sleeves are best against sunburns, and also the fish will not see your light colored arms.

• T-SHIRTS or SINGLETS - Light cotton or micro-fleece

• PANTS: Either hi-tech polyester outdoor track-pants/trousers, or shorts over polypropylene long-johns. We prefer to wade wet because water temperatures are mild and waders are hot and uncomfortable on long hikes. Choose pants that dry quickly.

Wading Boots - Sturdy wading boots, because the terrain is rugged, and we often cover quite long distances. Wading boots with felt or felt + studs are ideal. We support quality boots to our clients from size 9-13, but if you prefer to bring your own pair you are welcome to do so.

• JACKET - A lightweight 100% waterproof jacket - dull colors that you can slip in your backpack in case of unexpected wind/rain. Mountain weather can change rapidly.

• Pullover - a fleece lined hooded Pullover is nice to have available in the evening. The temperature can drop fast in December and January high up in the mountains.

• SUN-BLOCK SPF30+ - Bring SPF30+ sun-block, water-resistant. The sun here during midday can be very strong.

• INSECT REPELLENT - There are very few troublesome insects here. However, at dusk and dawn there are sometimes mosquitoes. A repellent with about 25%+ Deet content is recommended.
